Love & Malice
Sex, love and romance in the 1960s
Produced by Blue Trumpet for Radio 2RRR, Love & Malice explores 1960s attitudes to sex, love, and romance through the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan.
Episode 5: Once upon a time you dressed so fine
In this episode, James and Ray look at the explosive rise of the Rolling Stones and the mania, some of it violent, they triggered. By mid-1965 they were in full swing with their breakthrough song, Satisfaction. At the same time, Bob Dylan is blowing minds with the sheer power of his imagery, his physical beauty, and, it has to be said, his precocious cynicism. By contrast, the Beatles carry on their merry, hit-making way with the release of Help! Another breakthrough for them and for pop music.
