Love & Malice
Sex, love and romance in the 1960s
Produced by Blue Trumpet for Radio 2RRR, Love & Malice explores 1960s attitudes to sex, love, and romance through the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan.
Episode 2: That’s why I go for that rock and roll music
In this episode, James and Ray look at the inexorable rise of the Beatles and the early songs that in 1963 gave birth to Beatlemania. Culminating, in August 1963, in the bombshell … She Loves You. This was the song that topped all the charts and broke all the records. Think about it … ‘she’ … ‘loves’ … ‘you’. At the same time, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones enter the picture. Still faint but already expressing a very different attitude to love.
